SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT REGARDING WEST NILE VIRUS IN LUZERNE COUNTY

Jackson Township has been informed of West Nile Virus positive samples in both West Pittston Borough and Wyoming Borough. Below you will see information about municipalities sampled so far by our program this year and virus detection highlighted in red. Luzerne Conservation District is continuing to monitor through larval and adult surveillance to help diminish the potential spread of West Nile.

We encourage all residents to remove standing water from property. Artificial habitat such as bird baths, tires, unsealed rain barrels, children’s toys, wheelbarrows, or anything else that holds stagnant water for more than 4 days can begin to breed mosquitoes. Cleaning up larval habitat can have one of the largest impacts on mosquito populations!

We also encourage residents to take the following precautions:
Wear EPA registered repellents.
Stay indoors during peak mosquito hours (dusk to dawn)
Wear long sleeves, pants, and closed toes shoes, if possible.

Jackson Township Board of Supervisors was recently presented with the Key to SCI-Dallas in recognition of 65 years of Community Relations. This was presented to the Board by the Department of Corrections on SCI-Dallas’s 65th Anniversary!
